This was my first time back in Mexico almost 15 years. My parents are originally from Michoacán which is not too far from Mexico City. We used to travel to Michoacán annually when I was a kid but we stopped due to the growing violence that consumed the area. 15 years later I bit into the sope and had a flashback of being 13 years old again in a tiny village in Mexico. I was so happy to taste a memory that I had forgotten. Contramar really captures all of flavors of Mexico in all of their dishes. My favorite dish of the night had to be the octopus cocktail. It is a must try! I'm so used to octopus being over cooked and rubbery but here it was almost buttery and cloud like. The cocktails here were also very good! Service- the staff were amazing!!

Managed to get a last minute early dinner reservation. The staff was super friendly and I loved the vibe of the restaurant. Definitely start with the tuna tostadas. They were absolutely delicious. The ceviche was decent, but I would have rather just gotten another order of the tostadas. The fish was AMAZING. We opted for the Contramar version which is half adobo rub and half parsley rub. Both seasonings were so good and I honestly couldn't choose which I liked better. This is a must try. We ended with the fig tart which was a great option for dessert.

I got to sit outside to enjoy my meal at Contramar! I made a reservation around a month in advance but they were actually able to sit me down 30min in advance which was convenient. There were multiple waiters checking in, but I wished there were only one dedicated one because multiple people were asking me the same questions. Regardless, I appreciated the check-ins! The star of the meal was definitely the tuna tostadas. So fresh and flavorful! I loved also the jalapeño + onion sides that came with it. The octopus tacos were okay; I wish they came out crispier than they actually were. Overall, I found this meal to be pricier than what I experienced.

We made it a priority to visit during our short trip to CDMX and it did not disappoint. The tuna tostadas are DELICIOUS! The pescado a la talla had a beautiful presentation and the fish was grilled perfectly. We got an aguachile as well, also pretty good but would probably skip in favor of more tostadas next time. The guava cheesecake was also quite good with real slivers of guava but a little pricey. We thought a reservation would be imperative and difficult to get, but to our surprise we were able to do a walk-in around 1pm on a weekday. It might definitely be busier during peak times though. Highly recommend as I felt it was worth the hype!

Do yourself a favor and make reservations here. Everything was delicious. The tostadas and the fish were prepared perfectly. The fish itself while paired with the sauces created that perfect bite. Also ordered their salad which was also great. Perfectly dressed and green beans perfectly blanched which gave it the perfect crunch. Oh and don't forget their famous fig dessert.

WOW. To start, the service is amazing. The staff is very attentive and helpful. The restaurant was beautiful and very open concept. Aside from the aguachile, everything was 10/10. The aguachile lacked flavor and spiciness. The octopus was so tender and the matcha sauce was a match made in heaven. The scallops on the tostadas was a so fresh. The whole grilled fish was amazing. Fatty, tender, and juicy. I highly recommend this place for a nice dinner.

Contramar deserves all the rave reviews that it has received and is definitely a must-visit when in Mexico City. This place does get busy so I recommended getting reservations or going at a less peak time like my mother and I had (we went for a late lunch around 2 PM). We ordered the tuna tartare tostadas and the whole half red fish half green fish. The tuna tostadas were absolutely fantastic and were super fresh and filling. The fish was great as well- I highly recommend to eat it with the tortillas, beans, and green sauce that accompanies it. I personally liked the red side more than the green side (for a lack of better terms haha) but it's fun to try and mix both together. All in all, I do recommend Contramar to anyone visiting Mexico City. It has fantastic food, but at a bit of a high price tag hence the four stars versus the five stars. Enjoy!

Absolutely 100% worth it. If you're thinking of not going, ignore that voice! The location is perfect, lots of other restaurants and bars near by for pre or post drinks. I tried to get a reservation for dinner but it was booked so we decided to do lunch and got there when they opened and were seated outside immediately. I highly recommend going when they open if you can't get a reservation to avoid a wait. My plan in CDMX was to eat a little, a lot. So, I only had tostadas here to save room for other samplings as I walked around, but I saw the fish go by with red and green sauce and my mouth watered. I came for the tuna tostadas based on reviews. Our waiter suggested a mix of tuna and scallop tostadas so we went with that. Both were amazing. Super fresh and flavorful. The sauce and pickled onions and peppers they provide on the side were a perfect topping. Service was top notch. We were checked on often by several waiters. We were offered dessert with a sample platter but resisted even though the fig tart looked fantastic. The prices are a bit high, but I had zero regrets.

Food: 4 Decor: 3 Service: 3 Came here for lunch on my CDMX vacation. Pretty good and would recommend. Tostada de Atún Raw tuna tostadas with fried onion and avocado ~4/5. Pretty tasty. Fresh tuna and avocado on top of a crispy tostada chip. Aguachile camaron ~3/5. Shrimp tasted fresh, but I think I would have preferred fish. Would also recommend sharing since the portion size was pretty big. Also ordered a unique drink but I can't remember what it was. Wasn't the biggest fan, but glad I was able to try it. Would definitely try the famous Pescado a la talla if I return.
